Since 2013 the NY Riders have joined in helping guard the monument at Putnam County Veteran's Park at the John Morris Memorial Watchfire Vigil.

The event takes place Friday through Sunday nights of Memorial weekend, 6 p.m.- 6 a.m. each shift, with flag retirement throughout the vigil.  This ceremony started when somewhere between the evening of May 29, 2005 and the morning of May 30, 2005 red paint was thrown over the monuments and the vandals also spray-painted "War is Failure" at the Putnam County Veteran's Park.  The then Chief Investigator at Putnam County's Sheriff's Department suggested the veterans start guarding the monuments overnight.
